Gerry Stickells (Hendrix road manager) : It was so different then. We never used to get to the venue until two in the afternoon at the earliest and I laugh when people tell me how loud those shows were. They couldn't have been loud. What did we have for sound? For the first tour of America, everything, including the PA, fit into a Chevrolet station wagon. Even when we flew, all of our equipment was checked luggage or excess baggage. There was no air freight in those days. The amplifiers didn't even have cases, the speakers didn't have cases, the drums had just a fibre case. Our stuff just came rolling out as luggage.
