While driving in her powder blue convertible to New York City, USA, to make her first appearance at The Harlem Apollo Theatre, 20 year old singer Ruth Brown is seriously injured in a car crash near Chester, Pennsylvania. Suffering severe internal injuries and two broken legs, she is rushed to hospital where she will spend three months.
