Steve Malins (journalist): I had gone out to cover the tour but, when we got there, Depeche Mode refused to talk to me. They were all travelling in separate cars. Gahan was locked in his dressing room which had been transformed into some sort of shrine with candles and black carpet and velvet hangings. The only time I saw him was when he was dancing in the wings during Primal Scream's set, looking out of his head. During Depeche Mode's set, he stripped off to the waist to show off all his tattoos, and stood with his arms outstretched as if he was Jesus.
