Steve Stills (guitarist, Buffalo Springfield] : I think we all met at (Monkee) Peter Tork's house first, but then we thought, where can we go play? I said we could go to my house in Malibu, because I had no neighbours around. It was a pretty eclectic bunch - Hugh Masekela, Buddy Miles and Bruce Palmer. Brucey was around my house all the time because he was the bass player in Buffalo Springfield, and Hughie would show up now and then. We went through two sets of players that night, me and Jimi, because we kept going. We played to one dawn, through the morning and next day, all the way into the next dawn.

Doug Hastings (briefly a member of Buffalo Springfield] : I did a jam one afternoon at the Malibu house with Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles, David Crosby, and Stephen Stills. I think Stephen played bass. It was the four of us playing in one part of the room, and Jimi playing about fifteen feet away from us, off in a corner with his back to us. We probably played for a couple of hours. Buddy sang and Jimi sat, off in the corner, playing his wah-wah pedal. I was never quite sure if he was playing with us or just playing while we were playing. He was popping acid like it was aspirin. He was way out there and taking more because he wasn't far enough out. Later on, we went upstairs and there he was with a couple of girls and he was asking for more acid. I watched as he took two more. He had enough to kill a horse.

Steve Stills : That night, I really started to learn how to play lead guitar.
