Nigel Grainge (A+R Man for Thin Lizzy) : I know people have all sorts of theories about this. The most popular being the fact that Phil being black worked against them in the States. But I don't think that that was ever a problem. Phil transcended that in the same way that Jimi Hendrix had and never became an issue, as far as I'm aware.

The truth is that Thin Lizzy failed to break America because of bad promotion, simple as that. Knowing the problems that I had with their American record company over other artists, I can only say that if Thin Lizzy had been handled by anyone other than Mercury (Phonogram' US label) they would have been huge in America and much bigger throughout the rest of the world.
