Mike Stoller : We were really supervisors, working with these young producers and writers. We would discuss things with them, be bouncing boards for them.

Ellie Greenwich : Girls was happening on the charts, so girls kept coming into the office. When teen idols were happening, every office was filled with aspiring Frankie Avalons. If the group sounded good and looked good, we'd take a shot. We didn't think in terms of 'girl groups'. We never put a label on it.
