2017 is certainly getting off to an amazingly good start. Norwegian power-poppers Beachheads couple the freewheeling melodic zest of The Lemonheads with the guitar calisthenics of The Only Ones to exhilarating effect. Fronted by local indie-pop legend Borild, this quartet makes even the most unpromising subject matter, from overwhelming grief to lost love, rattle along like a candy-striped rocketship to infinity and beyond. And when you’re wondering if Beachheads can possibly maintain their euphoric momentum, they ratchet the action up still further. Never, for example, has dying sounded as celebratory as it does in Despair, and rarely has the language of love been expressed with such unbridled verve as it is in Una.
