Full article:
Music has become a very strange place of late. Having barely come to terms with the revelation that 'authentic' bluesman Seasick Steve is in fact a re-invented disco artist, here comes 90s indie-rocker Herman Dune transformed into roots-country folkie Stanley Brinks. Thus, the 26 songs on this double-album are not the simple homespun Americana that your ears might imagine. Based in France, Dune is Swedish/Moroccan and his banjo/fiddle backing duo are Swedes. It’s all faux but, nevertheless, this is a gloriously enjoyable trip into a long-lost backwoods and backwaters USA. The songs are all new but ridiculously evocative of a time when a studio consisted of nothing more than a room with a tape recorder in it. Lovely.
