Fact #146926

When:

Short story:

Jay-Jay Johanson releases his tenth album, Opium, on Kwaidan Records.

Full article:

Johanson, a melancholic Swedish singer-songwriter who has found his greatest success, over a nine-album career, in France, is something of an acquired taste. However, for those who like their songs a bit dark and enigmatic, his unlikely blend of Scott Walker, Jacques Brel, The Cocteau Twins and Nick Cave, could make him a lifelong favourite. The blatantly Bacharach-like orchestration of Be Yourself, the glitchy backdrop to I Love Him So and the almost submerged vocal samples of the otherwise sparkly-bright I Don’t Know Much About Loving, give the tracks a depth that demands several listens before it’s possible to make a simple love it or hate it decision.
