Review by Johnny Black - first appeared in Hi Fi News
Six years since he last recorded an album of new material, Isaak’s upped sticks from LA to Nashville and delivered a bunch of solid tunes that should more than satisfy the faithful. Isaak has always been a consummate professional who maintains just enough of a seedy, downbeat image to keep him interesting. He knows exactly what his fans want, so he whips out his Orbison voice for the mariachi-flavoured Perfect Lover, struts a little rockabilly with the doom-laden Down In Flames and even delivers a fair Hank Williams pastiche on Every Night I Miss You More. So, no surprises, but then Isaak has always preferred re-inventing the past to breaking new ground. This album won’t convert anybody, but devotees will lap it up.
