Full article:
Al Stewart : I came to London because I was fascinated by the contemporary folk scene. In '63 I'd wanted to be a rock star but by '65 I wasn't sure whether I wanted to be a rock star or a folkie. Dylan was happening and Simon And Garfunkel had put out the Wednesday Morning 3am EP, and I was just curious as to what all this stuff was about. As fortune would have it, I found myself living in the same apartment and next door to Paul Simon for four months, so that kind of swung me. I was next door when he wrote Homeward Bound and I thought, well I think I can probably do that if I put my mind to it. I saw people like Bert Jansch and John Renbourn. I thought, well this is more interesting than singing Twist And Shout every night or playing Wipe Out or whatever it was I was doing.
