Indie-folk fans may already have encountered Ben Rubinstein, the core of Benedict Benjamin, when he was working with The Mariner’s Children and Peggy Sue but, even if you’ve never heard of him, you could find this album right up your rural byway. Said to have been recorded in a series of churches, bedrooms and kitchens across the South-East of England, the album has drawn comparisons with Arcade Fire and Mumford And Sons but don’t let that put you off. Check out his disarmingly understated recent single Thin Skin or the more powerful, densely structured Had What You Had, and you should recognise all the hallmarks of a songwriter who’s here for the long run.
