Scandinavia continues to punch well above its weight, not just with all those spooky tv series, but with extraordinary musical artists. On their second album, Norway’s Atlanter offer a remarkable blend of catchy pop with elaborate prog-rock trimmings. On the six-minute-long Light, for example, they deliver memorably singable vocal hooks adorned with finger-blisteringly precise intertwining guitar hooks. Love Shine, on the other hand, sounds like a Mississippi blues that found its way to the Middle East, while the title track zips along with an airy African vibe reminiscent of Vampire Weekend. Might need a couple of listens but your patience will be rewarded.
