Pete Townshend (The Who) : See My Friend (by The Kinks) was The Next Time I pricked up my ears and thought, 'God, he's done it again. He's invented something new.' That was the first reasonable use of the drone - far, far better than anything The Beatles did and far, far easier. … On our first album there's a couple of songs that were directly influenced by that song: The Good's Gone, for example.

Roger Daltrey (vocalist, The Who) : For the My Generation album, there was nothing to be nervous about in them days. We used to take every day as it came. Every day was just a gig and I think we did the recording between gigs literally. We did the whole album in two afternoons and by the end of the week we were playing the stuff onstage. That's how wonderful it was in those days.
