Full article:

Roger Waters (Pink Floyd] : At college in London, Syd and I formed various bands which gradually became The Pink Floyd Sound, which was a name we'd coined by combining the names of two old Georgia bluesman, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. At first, when Bob Close was in the band, we were much more blues than pop, playing stuff by Elmore James and Rufus Thomas.

Joe Boyd (record producer) : It's ironic that The Floyd was named after two blues singers, as they set out to be a blues band. But because of Syd, their music is almost devoid of blues. His singing style is completely English and the songs are of the jaunty, witty music hall type. He's a classic songwriter in the tradition of Ray Davies and Lennon and McCartney, at that crossroads of music hall and pop.

Roger Waters : I lived in a flat with Rick around that time, and he was so mean he used to keep his cornflakes in a cupboard which he locked with a padlock.
