Hal David : There wasn't great enthusiasm for it. I had great enthusiasm for it. We were asked by Liberty Records to record Jackie, who is a great singer and a good songwriter, too. We were in an office in the RKO building and we played a number of songs to Jackie. I suggested to Burt that we play 'What The World Needs Now Is Love' to her. And we did and Jackie said, 'That's the one I want to do.' Jackie was the catalyst - she was really excited about doing that song.
