Junior Walker : Another guy was supposed to sing this record. I guess he got cold feet. So I came in and someone said, "Man, they done set up time for you to do this record." I says, "What record?Shotgun record, man." I said, "OK, all right, we going to do it." So I looked at the band. I said, "Somebody got to sing it man, because the thing, you know, is a song." Willie (guitarist Willie Woods) looked at me and say, "Man, I sing. I don't holler." I said, "Oh, man, I don't want to go through all of this."

And the whole band said, "Yeah, ain't no need to go through none of it. You just sing the song. Let's go." I said, "Oh, no!" We went in the studio anyway.

After we blowed it down, I think it was Brain Holland (of songwriting trio Holland, Dozier and Holland) who was sitting there. He jumped up and he ran into the control room. "Do it over!" And we run it back and we blowed it again. He said, "Well, I think I'm going to … put what I want on the first one you did … because that's it. The first one is it. This one is okay, but that other one…" So they went back and they edited it. Brian Holland looked out at me and he said, "Boy, you got a hit!" I say, "Have I?" He said, "Yeah. You got one this time." And it was a big one.
