According to figures released by music industry trade body The BPI, pop music nudged rock out of the way during 2014 to become the dominant genre in UK music sales. The figures, based on Official Charts Company data, show that high-profile successes from Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Paloma Faith gave pop a 34.5% share of album sales – its biggest since 1999.
