Dave Davies (guitarist, The Kinks] : Our co-manager Larry Page went on and he got a band together called The Troggs. Now, I'm not criticising Reg Presley, because he wrote some great songs, but The Troggs was really Larry's vision of The Kinks Part 2. They were a bit of a joke in the music industry at the time. And then The Who, which was another attempt to do The Kinks again, but dear old Pete Townshend has always been upfront and honest about admitting that.

Keith Altham (publicist) : Larry Parnes (impressario) had this new group called The Troggs, but he didn't like their surnames, especially not that of the lead singer, Reginald Maurice Ball. That didn't sound very exciting. So we were talking about names over the phone one day and I just said, 'Oh, call him Presley.' And Larry said, 'That's it! Reg Presley.'

Unfortunately, he didn't bother to tell Reg. So when Wild Thing came out, Reg found himself reading the papers about this lead singer called Reg Presley. 'Who's this Reg Presley?' he kept saying.

Dave Gregory (guitarist, XTC) : I loved Chris Britton, the guitarist of The Troggs, because in 1966 Wild Thing tipped me over the edge. That was the record which said, "You’ve gotta do this". It seemed like something I could achieve. You could learn those three chords and with a bit of practice you could play that song. Chris Britton was just a beat guitar player, but they were just the perfect band for my thirteen year old ears. Reg Presley was a terrific songwriter.
