Fact #118251
When:
Short story:
The Jimi Hendrix Experience are recording Red House at De Lane Lea Studios, London, UK, followed by a gig at The Pavilion, Bath, UK.
Full article:
Chas Chandler (manager, Jimi Hendrix Experience) : The 'Smash Hits' Red House was definitely done at De Lane Lea, not CBS. The Red House on the album (Are You Experienced) came about during the last fifteen minutes of another session.
John Lee Hooker : I've always loved that song (Red House); I loved the way Jimi did it. I never did see him play, but I know he was seen as somebody in the rock side of things, but underneath he was a blues man. He played a mean blues guitar.
Josephine Bayne (Bath And Wilts Evening Chronicle) : As Jimi Hendrix bellowed Lord have Mercy from his altar and his worshippers gazed in silent adoration from below, I echoed his sentiments as my ribs reverberated with the intolerable volume of electronic sound ... Why he needs to create horrific wailing effects on his guitar and turn the amplifiers to full strength, I cannot imagine. Perhaps someone should tell him that the 'freakier than thou' competition is over and music is on the way back.
