Johnny Black (diary entry) : Carol and I went to see The Kinks and had a lovely evening. They've still got the energy, the humour and everything else they ever had. Most of what they had was the original three chord bash, magnificently rendered, and much beloved of today's young punk musicians. Ray Davies was also the first guy I can remember who could put English place names into rock'n'roll songs and make them sound cool.
