Ashley Goodall (A+R Man, EMI Records) : Maiden's manager, Rod Smallwood, insisted on a three album commitment from EMI because he wanted the band to be seen as a longer term project, not just a quick one-off. He was absolutely right to do that. It meant the deal had to be approved by the EMI Board, because the company wouldn't do three album deals except in special cases. And Brian did take it up to the board and got it cleared. I remember him coming down to my office and says, "Right, we've got it, three albums firm." That was a real 'gulp' moment.
