WWL-AM radio begins broadcasting as a 10-watt station at 833 kHz from the Marquette Hall, Loyola campus, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. From the 1940s until the 1960s the station will be famed for its live broadcasts of local Dixieland jazz bands, including such notables as Papa Celestin, Sharkey Bonano, Irving Fazola, Tony Almarico, and Lizzie Miles.
