Pete Quaife (bassist, The Kinks] : Dedicated Follower Of Fashion was absolute murder to record. At one point, Ray took a whole spool of tape, tipped it on the studio floor and set fire to it. He couldn't get the right sound from the guitar at the beginning of the number. He wanted a kind of ukelele sound, and Dave couldn't get it, so he threw a fit. There was always a lot of that, screaming, shouting, accusations.

That was a great song, but count how many times I play a note in each bar. And then count how many times I repeat it. It was an incredibly boring song to play, and I had to play it night after night after night. I did try to look as if I was enjoying myself. Nowadays you'd get a computer to do it. I used to try and find little things to embellish it in the middle but I'd get this glare from Ray.
