Fact #103710

When:

Short story:

The Who play at the Railway Hotel, Harrow And Wealdstone, UK.

Full article:

Richard Barnes (gig promoter) : One night (at The Railway Hotel) they did a version of Smokestack Lightning which was very much, with hindsight, leading towards The Who sound. The amps were whacked up as high as they'd go, with this incredible rumbling filling the room. At the time I don't think I'd ever heard anything so loud. It felt as if an iron bar had been driven through my head from one ear to the other and I'd been lifted up.
