Derek Taylor (PR man) : When The Beatles arrived in Adelaide, it was like a healing tour. There was a big open car. With no threat of danger, the boys could sit on the back of it. And the entire population of the great city turned out.

The Australians were also the first people to provide The Beatles with balconies from which to wave. And there's something about a balcony appearance which reminded people of royalty or, the darker side, of Hitler.

Gerry Walker (audience) I saw The Beatles at Adelaide Town Hall, 12 June 1964, with 300,000 others, married the next day and went to their concert at Sydney boxing stadium while on honeymoon. Great memories and still the greatest band and the greatest music in my experience.

Mimi Smith (John's aunt) : I got into trouble for telling an Australian TV man that John used to be bad at arithmetic when he was at school. So,on TV, this man said to him, 'If you're bad at maths, how do you count all that money you're earning?' 'I don't count it,' John said, 'I weigh it.'
