Short story:

Full article:
Michael Lang (producer, Woodstock Festival) : We set a limit of what we'd pay an act, which was $15,000, and stuck to it. the only one that negotiated beyond it was Jimi Hendrix. He had a booking a week before for a $150,000 in California, and I still wouldn't pay him more than $15,000, but he insisted on it being thirty. And I said, 'Fine. We'll pay you thirty if you'll play twice - the first day and the last day.'
Ron Terry (booking agent) : I got with the guys from Woodstock Ventures and instructed them to give me $18,000 immediately and place the rest in escrow. When they did, Michael Goldstein was instructed to issue a press release saying that Hendrix would perform at the festival. Weiss, Jeffery and I had a meeting with Hendrix and told him we were getting more money than anyone else and that this was an important gig to play. Hendrix said, 'If you feel it's that important, let's do it.'
