Chuck Berry releases a new single, Johnny B. Goode, on Chicago-based Chess Records in the USA. Not only will the song become an all-time rock'n'roll standard covered by hundreds of artists, but it will win many awards including being No1 in the Rolling Stone magazine list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All Time. Perhaps its greatest single honour, however, is that it was included on the Voyager Golden Record, and sent off into space in 1977 within the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft as one of just four American songs representing the many cultural achievements of humanity.
