The musical comedy Annie Get Your Gun, by Irving Berlin, is presented during a run of 1,147 performances at The Imperial Theatre, Broadway, New York City, USA.
The first edition of a new tv variety show, Toast Of The Town, is aired in the USA. It will become better known as The Ed Sullivan Show, and will run until June 1971. In this first edition, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis perform along with singer Monica Lewis and Broadway composers Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, previewing the score to their then-new show South Pacific, set to open on Broadway in 1949.
