It is reported that jazz drummer and bandleader Gene Krupa has been fined for trying to defend black trumpeter Roy 'Little Jazz' Eldridge against the racist actions of the owner of the Valencia Ballroom, York, Pennsylvania, USA. The owner had tried to refuse Eldridge entry to the ballroom on grounds of his race. Krupa became involved in a fight with the restaurant owner, which led to him being arrested and fined $10.
