Be Bop Deluxe release their fourth album, Modern Music, on Harvest Records in the UK.

Journalist Charles Shaar Murray of UK music weekly the NME (New Musical Express) reviews The Clash's recent show at The Screen On The Green, Islington, London, UK, saying, "the Clash are the kind of garage band who should be speedily returned to the garage, preferably with the motor running". His comments will inspire Joe Strummer of The Clash to respond with the song Garageland, which will appear on the band's debut album.

The musical Your Arms Too Short To Box With God is presented at The Lyceum Theatre, Broadway, New York City, USA. It will run on Broadway for 429 performances. The musical is based on the Biblical Book of Matthew.
