Fact #98694

When:

Short story:

The Kinks sign a five year management contract with Boscobel Productions, owned by their managers Robert Wace and Grenville Collins.

Full article:

Ray Davies (leader, The Kinks] : My brother Dave was fifteen when he signed the contract, I was eighteen. Our parents had to witness it, but of course they didn't read it.

Dave Davies (guitarist, The Kinks] : I always thought we were not so much mismanaged as unmanaged. Robert Wace and Grenville Collins were really great in the beginning, because they loved the band. There was a lot of camaraderie between us and they shared in the excitement of it all. But they just weren't experienced. They were green and making it up as they went along, just like we were. We got into problems in America because they didn't come with us. We played somewhere and didn't pay the local taxes, so the unions banned us. Of course us silly sods didn't know what they were talking about.
