Dean Torrence (Jan And Dean] : We had a couple of months to think about Dead Man's Curve. We had kind of hurried that track along to get it on the Drag City album while Drag City was still on the charts. We realised it was a good song and had even more potential. Given a little more time, we felt we could make it etter than it originally was.

The New Girl In School (originally titled Gonna Hustle You) was the intended A-side but we figured if people thoughtDead Man's Curve was too morbid, we'd have something to fall back on.

It was Liberty that asked us to change the title. I asked my dad about that and he said people his age might have a different connotation for the word 'hustle' than our generation might.

I finally got itout in its original form later on. I alwys appreciated the original form, although we knew conceptually the tune was there no matter what the lyrics were. It didn't really make that much difference. It was still the groove of the song. To me, that was your classic Brian Wilson-type song.
