Fact #98476

When:

Short story:

Chicago blues pianist Otis Spann is in Tempo Sound Studios, New York City, USA, recording with Fleetwood Mac as his backing band. The results will be released as the album The Biggest Thing Since Colossus.

Full article:

Mike Vernon (producer) : One of the artists involved in that project (Blues Jam At Chess) was Otis Spann and the relationship that was built up even over such a short time led to my belief that a solo album featuring both acts would make for some great listening.

The only difficult decision that had to be taken was in relation to the drummer. Otis was used to working with long-time associate S.P.Leary, and he felt happier in his mind at having that personal bond with at least one of the sidemen on the recording date. Mick Fleetwood very graciously stepped down and let the flambouyant S.P. onto the drum stool.

In my own personal estimation, Peter Green was just the very best blues guitarist this country has ever produced and, if anybody wants any proof of that, all they have to do is listen to the Otis Spann album I did with Fleetwood Mac, The Biggest Thing Since Colossus. Some of the guitar playing on that is absolutely stunning and it's all from the heart.
