John Steele (drummer, The Animals] : There was a curious Victorian building in Newcastle called Handyside Arcade. It had cast iron arches and it was in a horse-shoe shape, you went in from Percy Street on the Haymarket and you walked round the arcade in a curve and came out again onto Percy Street. There was a big deep lobby in there with three flights of concrete stairs and a lift, and all these shops, the kind of thing you used to find under railway arches, people who'd fix your washing machine or sell military medals, coins, stamps
