Fact #94844
When:
Short story:
The Beatles' manager Brian Epstein approaches Ringo Starr of Rory Storme And The Hurricanes, to see if he'd like to replace Pete Best in The Beatles.
Full article:
Paul McCartney : We met Ringo who'd been working the whole season at Butlin's camp - he was a seasoned professional - but the beard had to go, and it did.
Dave Jamieson (roadie, Rory Storm And The Hurricanes] : When Ringo joined The Beatles, The Hurricanes were at Butlins in Skegness. They were there for the summer of '62.
Johnny Guitar (guitarist, Rory Storm And The Hurricanes] : I was sharing a caravan with Ringo, off the camp. It was morning. John and Paul came in. As soon as I saw them, I knew what they were there for. I'm not sure if Brian had rung in the week. So we went to find Rory and told him that they'd come to take Ringo back to Liverpool with them. We asked Pete Best if he wanted to join us, but he was too upset about being fired. I don't blame Ringo for going. We knew The Beatles were gonna be big.
