San Francisco-based band Sly And The Family Stone are awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. for sales of the album Stand! in the USA. Interestingly, three gold discs have been awarded to three San Francisco artists over the past three days ' Sly, Santana and Janis Joplin - all of whom played at the Woodstock festival three months earlier.
