Tony Bramwell (Beatles' aide) : Those were always fantastic occasions, partly because they were televised, which was unusual for a rock event in those days, but also the fans went absolutely bonkers for the entire four hours of the show because they were seeing all their favourite acts in one show, one after the other.
Considering how many pop stars there were wandering around backstage, the shows were incredibly well run. They'd just have one set of amps on the stage, and each band would just go out and plug in, do a couple of numbers and then come right off again.
