Gene Pitney : Liberty Valance was something of a natural follow-on from Town Without Pity . Right after that, we were inundated with soundtracks and songs from movies and, when Liberty Valance came along, how can you turn it down? You had John Ford directing, you had Jimmy Stewart, Lee Marvin, John Wayne, a song written by Bacharach and David, and the song was perfect. It was one of the biggest records on a worldwide basis that I ever had.
