When:

Short story:

Edwin Shirley, the rock'n'roll trucking pioneer whose fleet of vehicles transported artists including The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Abba, Queen and Michael Jackson, dies aged 64 in Homerton Hospital, Hackney, London, England, UK, Europe. He had been diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2009 but continued working for as long as possible.

Full article:

Brian May (guitarist, Queen) : Most of you guys will not know Edwin's name. He didn't become a rock star or a politician or billionaire, but he was a gentle giant in his chosen profession - Trucking. Edwin was at the head of Queen's vehicle convoy for so many years I can't begin to remember how many. He was a rock in his own way - the job always got done, and in a way which pleased everyone. He was a great pal of Gerry Stickells, our illustrious Tour Manager, and the two of them wrote the book on how to party on tour - how to work hard, play hard, and treat everyone with decency and respect.
