Full article:

Peter Miller (guitarist, Peter Jay and The Jaywalkers] : My band was signed to Decca Records in 1962, and they appointed Joe (Meek) as our producer. We cut our first record at Decca, not at Joe's place. Joe was so unhappy with the sound he got there with our first record - although it got into the charts and was a minor hit - he refused to work there anymore. He told Decca that he was going to do all the other work that he was appointed producer for at his place.??It wasn't so much the sound as the fact that he was working with engineers who, in those days, wore white uniforms like hospital overalls, right? They were scientists, essentially; they were boffins. And they had this boffiny attitude, and upstart Joe came in there and wanted to do all sorts of strange things by, you know, turning compressors upside down and putting them in the bath, and they totally freaked out and wouldn't let him do that. You'd see them flailing away at each other in the control room's glass window. He persevered with that first recording of ours, and did get it finished; but he told us afterwards that we were not doing any more at Decca, that we'd do the rest at his place.

And from then on we worked at Holloway Road. We did about eight sides that were released, plus about ten or twelve that came out later on compilations. These were mostly instrumentals; we were an instrumental band at that time. We turned into a vocal band after a couple of years when The Beatles and Stones got famous and made more money than we did.
