Derrick Morgan (Jamaican vocalist) : There was a Chinese man named Leslie Kong who ran Beverly's and their business was, like, a restaurant. One day while I was home I saw a little boy come to me and he said to me that Beverly's sent him to me. And I said, 'Who's Beverly's?'.
And he told me he had a little song, and they were asking me could I put it together for this little boy who we named afterwards Jimmy Cliff. The song was called Dearest Beverly, a soft song and when I say it was a soft song I mean it was a soul song. I listened to the song, and I said that it was too slow for what was going on at the time
