Fact #80216

When:

Short story:

When Twisted Sister play in Midland, Texas, USA, the local police chief warns the band that the local sheriff wants to arrest the band. He advises the group members not to use any bad language onstage because if they do, he will not be able to get the group out of town safely.

Full article:

Jay Jay French (guitarist, Twisted Sister) : Now Midland and Odessa in Texas are sister cities. Midland is where the millionaires who own the oilfields live, and Odessa is where the workers live. So you would play Odessa if you were a heavy metal band. But the venue got changed to Midland and the chief of police comes in the dressing room and he goes, 'Hey, listen, we heard about you getting arrested. I wanna give you a heads up that the Sheriff here wants to arrest you guys.' So he asked us not to curse onstage in Midland because he didn't want the trouble. He said he'd get us out of town safely if we co-operated.

So we played the show, and then set off, we had about five trucks and eight buses, but as we got to the town line, the sheriff was there with a road block. It was like being in the middle of a Smokey And The Bandit movie. So then the chief of police pulls up in front of our trucks and he yells to the sheriff, 'They're good to go.' And the road block let us pass.
