Jay Jay French (guitarist, Twisted Sister) : We were touring down south in 1984 and they had passed a series of anti-rock laws – locally, not nationally, to keep certain bands out.
But the first thing that happened when we got down there in 1984 was that Dee got arrested in Amarillo for bad language. While they were fingerprinting Dee, this fat lawman asked him, 'What did they arrest you for?' Dee said it was for cursing, and the guy says, "Cursing? Shit!"
So that set off a national news story.
