There must have been something in the air during September 1978, because the day after The Stranglers did their thing with the strippers in Battersea Park, Queen arranged for no less than sixty five naked girls to assemble in Wimbledon Stadium to film a nude cycle race as a promo-stunt for the upcoming double A-side single, Fat Bottomed Girls/Bicycle Race. Although evidently unmoved by accusations of sexploitation, Queen guitarist Brian May later admitted “We lost some of our audience with that.” He was probably more hurt by the fact that Halfords, who supplied the bikes, refused to take the saddles back, requiring the band to stump up for them.
