Having been recently diagnosed with enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma, Swindon-born Steven Wells dies in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, aged 49. Under the name Seething Wells he had been a ranting punk-era poet, often playing as a support act to northern English punk bands, including The Fall, The Mekons and Gang Of Four, along with fellow ranters Attila The Stockbroker, Swift Nick and Porky The Poet. He also carved out a career as an acclaimed writer for the NME [New Musical Express].
