Lucy Dickins (booking agent, ITB) : Hot Chip was the first act that I found for myself. I saw them supporting Athlete at Shepherd's Bush Empire. They were signed to Moshi Moshi, and my friend Ferdi Unger-Hamilton at Moshi Moshi put me in touch with his friend Steven who needed an agent for this band, Hot Chip. Ferdi said, 'They're really quirky, not really mainstream, but I think they're really good.'
I was looking for a band to take on as an agent, and Steven put me and my brother Jonathan on the guest list at Shepherd's Bush Empire. I really liked them but I particularly remember Jonathan being very impressed. He said, 'You should go for this, Lu, they're a cult band.' That phrase stuck with me, and I've had my brother on a bit of a pedestal, so I take something seriously when he says it.
So I went to see them again at The Borderline, and then I had meetings with them and they asked me to be their agent. They've been dear friends of mine ever since. I have to admit, I didn't have a clue. I didn't know how to book a club tour. I could have done an arena tour, but I knew nothing about little clubs. rn(Source : interview with Johnny Black for Audience magazine, February 2013)
