Tony Hatch : The only reason why Fred Nightingale came up, and Fred has only ever written one song and that's Sugar And Spice for The Searchers. And that's because I was a bit nervous about these four lads from Liverpool and I didn't think they'd like the song and I knew that it was a deliberate follow-up to Sweets For My Sweet. But they say now that they knew all along that it was me. I said I'd found the song from a promising new young writer and they recorded it and, as you know, it didn't make number one but number two in the UK and also was a big hit in America. It also featured in the Robin Williams film Good Morning Vietnam.
