Fine Young Cannibals are chosen as Best British Group, while their album The Raw And The Cooked is Best Album by a British Artist. The band, however, later returns the trophies stating 'it is wrong and inappropriate for us to be associated with what amounts to a photo-opportunity for Margaret Thatcher and the Conservative Party.' Batman by Prince is Best Soundtrack. Queen collect the Outstanding Contribution to British Music trophy, with Freddie Mercury making his final public appearance. Other winners this year include Annie Lennox and Phil Collins.
