The Rolling Stones record I Wanna Be Your Man, written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney of The Beatles, at De Lane Lea Recording Studios, London, UK. On the same day, the band learns that guitarist Brian Jones is earning more money than the other members, on the basis that he is their leader. At some point in this month, Jones also writes and records a tv advertising jingle for the breakfast cereal Rice Krispies.

Ian Stewart (pianist and road manager) : When we started playing outside London, Brian said, I'm the leader of the group and I think I'll stay at the best hotel. All the rest of you can stay in a cheaper hotel. Of course, the rest of the Stones just laughed at him, and that was it from then on. It was all over for him as the leader. He started to isolate himself because of this attitude.
